Dock Jumping is an exciting sport that has exploded across the country since its creation in 1997, and Ultimate Air Dogs is the premier Dock Jumping organization in the country!
We produce professional shows that exhilarate audiences while maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere. Our shows become the feature of every festival or event that we do!
Many of our events entertain spectators numbering into the thousands, such as the National Cherry Festival, Asheville’s Bele Chere, the United Kennel Club (UKC) Premier, the Aflac Outdoor Games, select NASCAR races, and The Country Music Awards Festival.
People attending can expect fun times and they will learn new ways to have fun with their dogs. Dock jumping is all about the dogs and owners having fun, they are doing things that are natural for them. Once you start, you can't keep the dogs off the dock, they love it so much and we love seeing the look on the dogs' and owners' faces after a jump.
We encourage any size, mix or breed of dog to participate, which may be why we proudly have the largest database of canine athletes.
Many come to our events just to meet our president and main announcer, Milt Wilcox, the former Pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, famous for winning Game 3 of the 1984 World Series. His charismatic emceeing is as entertaining as watching the high-flying dogs!
The main features of this event are "Splash" and "Catch-it", and “Fetch-It”
In “Splash”, dogs run down a dock and fly into a pool, with the distance judged from the end of the dock to the base of the dog's tail. The dog gets two jumps and the best score of the two is recorded.
“Catch-It”, invented by Wilcox, runs the same way as Splash; however, the dog participates in two rounds where he/she must catch an object thrown for the jump, and where the object is caught, the distance is measured and added together – the highest score wins.
“Fetch-It” is another sport developed by Wilcox, where a bumper is suspended 4ft off the water, and starting at a minimum distance of 10ft out, the dog must knock the bumper out of it’s hold. The bumper is moved out at 1ft increments and the dog that knocks the bumper off at the furthest distance wins.
Keep in mind that this is a team sport - not only is it an added challenge for the dog to catch the throw object while in mid-air, it also requires added thought, timing, and strategy from the handler.
In 2008, Ultimate Air Dogs partnered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) so that dogs may earn lifetime UKC Dock Jumping titles, in addition to their annual Ultimate Air Dogs titles, at the majority of our events.
Ultimate Air Dogs has partnered with Purina to round up participants for the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, a nationally televised competition whose winners have been guests on CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman."
Purina has been a long time sponsor of Ultimate Air Dogs, as well as Milt and Sparky, who are proud to be the only non-frisbee members of the Purina Incredible Dog Team.
Milt and Sparky have been seen on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and ESPN’s “Cold Pizza”, along with competing in several of ESPN’s “Great Outdoor Games.” They have also been featured in “Sports Illustrated” and on the front page of the “Wall Street Journal.”
